The Salt and Light (S&L) Project

Heavenly Grits launched The Salt and Light (S&L) Project on June 3, 2018! Along with an amazing group of volunteers and board members, as my inner circle, we were able to see a great first year.  Providing service, workshops, random acts of kindness, and more. 

Our first Bible Study Class began June 25, 2018 and it continues year after year. These study groups (classes) are open to all: the churched, confused, inquisitive, and unchurched people. We come together intentionally and authentically to begin to discover why the Bible is GOOD NEWS and how it is relevant to us today; in our everyday situations in life. 

We don't only read from the Bible but we dive into it. Not just eisegesis: (Interpretation of scripture that reflects the personal ideas or viewpoint of the interpreter; (reading something into the text that isn't there), but leaning into the Bible in learning; We collectively exegesis the living word. (concerned with discovering the true meaning of the text, respecting its grammar, syntax, context and setting). We don't just read the Bible, we allow the Bible to read us. We discover what "following Jesus" really looks like and means.  

Our study groups are interactive, intentional, fun, and a safe place. Relationships are built and there are no unacceptable questions. Relationships are built and openhanded. 

Now we are coming back following our last season, with our next season beginning March 6, 2023.  We invite you to join us on this journey. We do not claim to be the bridge but we are faithful to attempt to help you find the bridge to the bridge. A no judgement zone, where you can ask the questions you have been afraid to ask, question what you need to discover answers to, and experience the love of people; in whatever state they are in or advances they have made on their journey. You will connect and have intentional fun as well. Laughing, learning, and talking together. We keep growing together every other Monday. At the core we believe that God Loves you and you can find and accept his love. We always begin In 2 Timothy 3:15 -17 and John 5:39-47 as a reminder.  We land on 2 Corinthians 4: 7-18 and start the conversations and lessons here; leaning in on verse 13: “We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;”  This season we continue in the gospels. (Matthew - John) going deeper, telling the story of Jesus and finding God and ourselves in it. 

NOTE: We began live. But virtual sessions and conversations over zoom has allowed us to include people from all over the country. Sept. we will continue using this platform and still find ways to engage live here in Illinois.  In many ways the pandemic was a gift.  You are always welcome to join us.
